Michelle Obama, during a recent interview on ABC, indicated that the unfortunate killing of a teenage girl in Chicago was perpetrated by someone using “an automatic weapon.” Although someone at ABC tried to cover for her by deleting that reference in the broadcast of her interview, the network got caught and our First Lady’s gaffe was widely circulated anyway. For those of you, like the First Lady, who are unfamiliar with the law, automaticweapons have long been banned and it continues to be a violation of the law to possess one. Then, we have our Veep, Joltin Joe Biden, who suggested that women can’t handle rifles ( we’ll ignore the sexism rampant in that statement) and should instead use a 12 gauge shotgun because a shotgun is easier to handle and more accurate than a rifle. He went on to suggest that if his wife Jill felt threatened, she should rush out on her back porch and fire both barrels of the shotgun into the air. First, as is known to anyone with even a passing knowledge of such matters, rifles are more accurate than shotguns, easier to use and, if needed, have more rounds at the shooter’s disposal. Suggesting that someone should indiscriminately discharge a firearm of any kind is anathema to anyone who knows and regularly handles firearms. Apparently, our Veep forgot that what goes up must come down and I’m sure he would be chagrined if his wife’s shotgun rounds penetrated someone’s head on their way back to earth. Finally, we have the White House’s attempt to have us believe that the President really loves guns after all, when they released a photo of him shooting a rifle or shotgun I can’t remember which. What they didn’t realize, of course, was his stance was all wrong, indicating it was probably the first time in his life he’d ever fired a rifle or shotgun. All of this would be comical except for the fact that it indicates that our leaders have no clue what they’re talking about when they urge us to ban weapons, restrict ammo sales and allow the feds to register all gun owners, so liberal newspapers can publish lists of who owns guns in the hope these citizens will be hounded in some way by those who oppose the Second Amendment. You can’t have a dialogue on a subject you know nothing about. You shouldn’t take a position on any issue you haven’t studied or are unfamiliar with. Of course, that is rational thought not based on mindless emotion. And that is a foreign concept for many of our so-called leaders in Washington.
